MEET DR. STOKS

Approach

Having been in practice for over 20 years, I've synthesized what I learned in my formal education with what I've learned from experience and from many areas of continuing education I have pursued. I believe this has led to a holistic view of mental and emotional health and well-being. I know you're here because you want to feel better, and there are many tools and approaches we can use to bring you some relief. I also believe it's important to look deeper at what's underlying your current distress to really produce lasting change. In my practice, I take a humanistic view and tend to integrate depth-oriented approaches with mindfulness, attention to the body and brain, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT).

Background

I have enjoyed a variety of experiences thus far in my career as a psychologist. After completing my formal training, I began my career as a faculty member in academia, overseeing the psychotherapy component of clinical research trials. As much as I enjoyed the intellectual stimulation of a research setting, I discovered that my true passion lies in the clinical work of helping people in a therapeutic setting. I began my own practice in 2003, and have also been involved in other professional projects of interest. It seems that my professional path is ever-changing and evolving as opportunities arise and circumstances in my life change. One of the things I love about my work is the flexibility to shape my practice so that I am continuously challenged and always doing work that I love.
