ABOUT

TELEHEALTH?

IF YOU HAVEN’T TRIED TELEHEALTH OR ARE

WONDERING

WHAT ITWOULD BE LIKE FOR THERAPY,

YOU’RE NOT ALONE

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, most of us had very limited (if any) experience with telehealth. As we pivoted to adapt to quarantining, many psychologists feared we wouldn't feel connected to our clients and wouldn't be able to provide the same level of care. While there are inherent differences, most of us have found we can still feel deeply connected and are highly effective in this modality. Research shows psychology telehealth to be effective, and my clients have echoed that while also reporting feeling (sometimes surprisingly) connected and engaged

Why telehealth?

One of the greatest advantages of telehealth is convenience. Clients appreciate being able to connect from home, work, or anywhere they have privacy and a good internet connection. Telehealth sessions also eliminate travel time, meaning less time away from work, school, parenting, and your busy life.

Utilizing telehealth also means you're not bound to providers in your immediate geographic area, allowing you to search more broadly for someone you can connect with and who has the experience and expertise you're looking for.

What about privacy?

Privacy and security are of the utmost importance in telehealth. I use a HIPAA-compliant video telehealth platform to protect your privacy. You should also ensure that you conduct all telehealth sessions in a private setting where you feel comfortable speaking freely and ideally won't be interrupted.

How does it work?

Once we have spoken and set up an appointment, I will enter your contact information into my software system, and you will get an email inviting you to enter your information and review and sign some documents. If you give consent, you will receive email and/or text reminders before your appointment with a link to join the session. You may click the link to join from a computer (with a camera) or laptop and will be taken directly to the session. You may also use a mobile device by installing an app and then clicking on the link.

Is telehealth right for me?

Many people are good candidates for telehealth. If any of the following apply, then telehealth may NOT be right for you:

  • You don't have reliable access to high-speed internet

  • You don't have access to a safe, private space

  • You don't feel comfortable with technology

  • You are in crisis, have recently been in crisis, or feel like you could soon be in crisis

  • You are experiencing significant suicidal ideation

  • You are engaging in self-harm

If you're not sure if telehealth is right for you, feel free to reach out and we can discuss it together.
